Peewee Falls, towering at 233 feet, is the tallest freestanding waterfall in Northeast Washington, cascading into the Pend Oreille River’s Z-Canyon. This area, transformed by the construction of the Boundary Dam, features breathtaking cliffs and additional waterfalls. Originally known as Periwee Falls, it was named after a French fur trapper who first settled the area. Today, Peewee Falls is a stunning spectacle, primarily enjoyed from the water but also viewable from a new trailhead and platform across the canyon, offering expansive views.
A short drive from Metaline Falls leads to the Boundary Dam Campground. This free facility provides a boat launch serving as the gateway to accessing Peewee Falls.
Direct foot access to the falls is not available. Visitors can enjoy views from a platform a few hundred feet from the parking area, or by watercraft for an up-close experience.
Peewee Falls plummets over a sheer granite face into Z-Canyon, misting kayakers and paddleboarders with its powerful spray.
Cell service is unavailable in this remote location. Watercraft is required to fully experience the falls due to inaccessible shoreline.
The Pend Oreille River region, enriched by the historical and charming towns of Metaline Falls, Ione, and Cusick, offers a deep dive into the cultural fabric of Northeast Washington. Metaline Falls, with its public museum and historic hotel, serves as a window into the area’s rich past. These communities are vibrant with festivals and events that celebrate their heritage against the stunning natural backdrop of the Selkirk Mountains and the expansive Colville National Forest.
Begin your Peewee Falls adventure at Sweet Creek Rest Area, where easy trails lead you to several waterfalls, perfect for a quick stop. Experience the unique Lions Rail Rider program, pedaling a 4-person cart through breathtaking landscapes. The journey extends to Sullivan Lake, a hub for hiking, camping, fishing, and watersports at the Selkirk Mountains’ foothills. With prominent peaks like Salmo Peak and Abercrombie framing the area, it promises an unforgettable outdoor experience in Northeast Washington.
