Palouse Falls

Palouse Falls, a striking natural feature where the Palouse River cascades down nearly 200 feet into a churning bowl, is renowned for its scenic journey through a basalt gorge towards the Snake River. Formed over 13,000 years ago during the Ice Age Floods, it was designated Washington’s state waterfall in 2014, a testament to its historical and geographical significance. Its breathtaking beauty attracts artists and photographers year-round, who seek to capture its ever-changing allure across different seasons and water conditions.

The Drive

Reaching the trailhead requires a long drive from any major cities and a 2-mile journey on a pothole-filled dirt road; caution advised in snow.

The Hike

This easy trail consists of a gravel-lined walkway, guiding visitors to the viewing platform, located just a few hundred feet from the parking lot.

The Falls

This iconic cascade plunges from a 198-foot basalt cliff, forming a swirling pool in the glaciated canyon below, a testament to its raw power.
