Hawk Creek Falls
Access notice, source checked October 5, 2026: In its April 2, 2026 Hawk Creek closure notice, the National Park Service announced that the campground and boat launch area is closed to all public access April 16–October 6, 2026, with a possible extension through October 30. Road and water access are prohibited during the road improvements project. Check current NPS status before visiting; an October 7 reopening is not confirmed.
Hawk Creek Falls, just over an hour’s drive from Spokane, is a remarkable natural wonder located in the Lake Roosevelt area. This 47-foot waterfall, characterized by its horsetail shape, gracefully skips off a red basalt canyon wall into a serene plunge pool. The surrounding red basalt amphitheater adds to the majesty of the scene, making Hawk Creek Falls a striking feature of the landscape. Located close to Hawk Creek Campground, the falls are a scenic destination for families when the area is open. Visiting depends on current access restrictions; see the notice above.
The Drive
The normal approach is via Hawk Creek Road north of Davenport, WA. Road access is prohibited during the road improvements project described above.
The Hike
When the area is open, a short, easy walk from the nearby campground along a dirt path leads directly to the falls. This route is unavailable during the closure described above.
